The Department of Aerospace Manufacturing Engineering was founded in 1952, formerly known as the Department of Aircraft Manufacturing Engineering. It was one of the first institutions in China to be authorized to grant master's and doctoral degrees, and it has a postdoctoral research station. The main discipline is Aerospace Science and Technology, which is an "A+" and "Double First-Class" Discipline. The undergraduate major is Aircraft Manufacturing Engineering, the master's degree and doctoral degree programs are in Aerospace Manufacturing Engineering. Meanwhile, we provide the postdoctoral research program in the major of Aerospace Science and Technology. The department was granted the authority to award doctoral degrees in 1981 and produced the first domestic doctoral graduate in the field in 1984. The first post-doctoral research station was established in 1985, and the department became a National Key Disciplines in 1988. It was one of the first Key Construction Disciplines of the "Project 211", "Project 985", and "Double First-Class" in China. It was also a "National Characteristic Specialty", a "National Comprehensive Reform Pilot Program", the first pilot specialty of the "Outstanding Engineer Program" of the Ministry of Education, a "National Defense Key and Characteristic Specialty", a "Famous Specialty" in Shaanxi Province, and a "First-Class Specialty" in Shaanxi Province. The department was also the 111-Talent Introduction Base of the National Foreign Expert Bureau's.

The Department of Aerospace Manufacturing Engineering has 83 faculty members, including 35 professors, 30 associate professors and 18 assistant professors or postdoctoral researchers. Among them, there are 45 doctoral supervisors and 74 master's supervisors, one academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, six national leading talents, and five national young talents.

Currently, the department has four national-level scientific research/teaching platforms and nine provincial-level scientific research/teaching platforms. After 70 years of development, the department, with its own unique technological advantages and distinctive national defense characteristics, has become an advanced professional teaching and research laboratory and experimental base in the field of aircraft manufacturing. It has strong research and development capabilities and social service capabilities, and has trained more than 100 leading talents, including chief engineers, deputy chief engineers, and chief process engineers of major aircraft models in China. The department has made many high-level achievements in the design, forming, processing, and assembly of major aerospace equipment, and has won one second prize of the National Natural Science Award, one second prize of the National Technology Invention Award, and three second prizes of the National Science and Technology Progress Award since the "11th Five-Year Plan".
